Many modern historians of India boast about the uncertainty of the fact that it is the British government that has integrated India into a nation and India is a nation under construction. But Puranas and other Sanskrit texts have described Indian nation and its nationality since ancient times. The name Bharatvarsha is not only explained in various Puranas, but its identity, cultural influence and geographical boundaries are also illustrated. In various Puranas, describing the geographical location of the ancient world, Bhuvanakosh, the geographical boundary of India, its cultural heritage, the vast landmass with different languages, traditions, has been described as a cultural, social, religious and communal nation. On the basis of mythological evidence, the presented research paper describes the ancient history of India, its nomenclature, geographical location and the antiquity of Indian culture. In the Puranas, this country gets its name for the first time as India. According to the geographical details of the Puranas, India is situated in the region of Jambudweep at the south of the Meruparvat i.e. Pamir Naat and even today, India is situated in the south of Pamir ranges in Afghanistan. The mountains, rivers, lakes, shrines and seas of India which are described in the Puranas, are still present in the Indian subcontinent. Modern European scholars and their disciple Indian historians termed the Puranas as the gossip of the Pandits and did not consider Puranas and other Sanskrit texts worthy of historical research in the study of ancient Indian history. The ancient history of the ancient nations of the world, Egypt, Europe, China, Middle East countries have been written on the basis of their ancient literature and other evidence, but Indian literature is not considered worthy of proof in the historiography of India, is a matter of surprise. Therefore, research in Sanskrit Vangmeya is essentially needed in the field of Indian history. Keeping this objective in view, this paper has been presented.
